about

Earth Day 1990... Houghton, Michigan

A good friend of the band who went to Michigan Tech University, invited us up to play and set up a great night of live music at a dance studio that was below his apartment. A number of local bands played along with The Self Righteous Bastards. A 10 hour trip each way, but so much fun... and we made enough money for gas for the cars and pasties for the ride home.

The crowd was pretty quiet for the first half of the show, but from the first moment of the second set (Can't Catch Caught) things were electric. Steve and John often had to play with their backs to the crowd to keep the mosh pit from overflowing onto the "stage" area. At around 3:10 in "Can't Catch Caught", you can hear John telling Jake to try to keep everyone out of the band area as people were stepping on gear and running into Steve and John. During both "CCC" and "The Tree" someone in the mosh pit stepped on Steve's guitar pedals and turned off the guitar sound. The whole show was so much fun... :)

The show was recorded with a 4-track, but we only had three mics, so the bass guitar is hard to hear. The master 4-track recording of the first song ("Deathcamp") couldn't be found, but the rest of the show was re-mixed, EQ'd and mastered by John in his current studio.

Our drummer Brian took the cover photo, so he's not actually in it, but our host Brian Soltis is on the left and our friend/groupie/roadie Ian is on the roof.
