When lead screamer and lyricist Mike S didn't come back to MSU in 1987, The Bastards had a choice to make, but found the perfect matches for the band in Jake and Brian. Jake was an English major with a great voice and Brian knew how to play drums, or at least (as he put it) consciously avoid beats. He had drum sticks and eventually brought up a drum set.

We continued on with some of the original songs, but started writing new songs at a breakneck pace and it was clear that we had upped the potential for SRB.
